ABOUT

Carole Baines is a self-taught artist based between Townsville and Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Carole has been a Queenslander since 2008, prior to this she has spent time living in New South Wales, Western Australia and the Northern Territory as well as numerous years abroad with her family in the Middle East and South East Asia.

Since settling in Queensland, Carole has at last found the opportunity to establish a creative space that fosters her talent as an emerging abstract artist with a passion for Australia's diverse natural beauty, the key inspiration animating her creative process. Carole's works oscillate between abstract seascapes, seasonal blooms, rugged terrain and tropical rainfall. Her works span various mediums including acrylic, oil, ink, pastel and ceramics.

Always an avid gardener Carole has transposed her love for native flora and fauna producing dynamic canvases replete with vibrant colour and organic movement. The uniqueness of Carole's work lies not in her careful application of paint but rather in her free-spirited approach to abstraction which mirrors the enigma of Australia's terrain. Her palette accommodates various pastel and earthen hues, imbued with contrasting striking primary tones. This marriage of divergent color schemes, as well as her characteristic layering technique, creates an up close view of nature brimming with life.
